SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS DURING THE PANDEMIC

MAINTAINING FITNESS DURING LOCKDOWN

When most fitness classes and gym businesses were closing their doors, Julie Liggins Fitness had other plans. Quickly creating online live and on demand fitness classes for members to benefit from regular workouts, despite the coronavirus lockdown.

“When I knew we were heading towards a lockdown, I had to look at other ways to run my fitness busines. I either had to give up and stop teaching during lockdown completely or find a way to be able to stream virtually.”

(Julie Liggins, Owner and Fitness Instructor)

BUILDING ONLINE FITNESS MEMBERSHIP

Having already created online workouts as part of her membership, the videos and platform were already established. The new online classes were hugely popular within the first weeks of the covid-19 lockdown 1 but it was a new experience for Studio 2 to go live!

Setting up in her front room, much to the horror of her family, Julie quickly adapted and was soon streaming to not only her members but people from all over the UK who were becoming members to access the easily accessible online fitness classes.

It wasn’t long until this new way of exercising became more popular and members were asking if it would continue once Julie Liggins Fitness reopened the studio doors.

TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT SOLUTIONS TO BRING GROUPS TOGETHER

Although using a laptop on a stand in Studio 2 would have ‘done the job’, it soon became apparent to Julie and her instructors, Julia and Tina, that it wouldn’t work due to health and safety when members rejoined them in Studio 2 and they also wanted to be able to see the online members clearly.

“This is when I contacted Production Support Services and they were straight on it! Within a few days I had a projector, branded white screen and a webcam installed!

It has been amazing! I can see everyone clearly on my backwall, who are live streaming from home as well as everyone in the studio”

COMMUNITY FITNESS ONLINE SUPPORT

Production Support Services quickly responded with a solution which was both flexible and appropriate for all classes.

The biggest barrier to creating the Studio 2 experience at home was interaction between the instructors and online participants.

By using a Panasonic high definition projector onto a printed branded screen, PSS were able to project the Zoom feed onto the back wall of the fitness studio creating a much better view of the participants.

As well as this, PSS provided a high definition camera, which was moveable via a custom cable system, to ensure flexibility for various classes to be broadcast in a way that is suitable for each session; ensuring the instructors were well seen by each of the people in the class.

FITNESS FOR MENTAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH

During a time of loneliness, when the world was encouraged to stay apart, Julie Liggins Fitness gave their members an opportunity to come together and improve their physical fitness while looking after their mental health.

Having the audio visual equipment installed has created an opportunity to enable Julie Liggins Fitness to bring fitness classes into people’s homes, but also keep together the Studio 2 family during a difficult time for people’s mental and physical health.

“As someone who loves to work ou,t not just for my physical but also my mental health, when lockdown hit I wasn’t sure how I’d get through it.  I should’ve known Julie Liggins and her team at Studio 2 wouldn’t let me down… Thanks Julie, Julia and Tina your energy and enthusiasm inspires me every day”

“[The classes] were my absolute savior. I worked all through lockdown and it was quite stressful so being able to continue with classes at home was amazing – a total mental and physical health dream to be honest.”
